Translation The hermitage (paḷḷi) was caused to be made by (I)ḷaṅkō of Kuṇā.
Locus At the head of a stone bed on the bare summit of a large boulder locally known as Nilāppāṟai, situated to the right forefront of the cave (Rājākkaḷ Pāṟai). The inscription is enclosed within a three-sided rectangular border with the bottom side open. Weather-beaten but legible.

1. kuṇā-. A place name; identified with modern Trikkaṇā (tiru-k-kuṇā), the ancient kuṇavāy(il) (Cilap. Patikam 1). See ETE 2, Commentary (89.1) and Section 4.20.4 (v) & (vi) for the identification of Kuṇavāyil and the probable date of Cilappatikāram.

2. [i*] is not engraved, but supplied from the context.

3. iḷaṅkō 'title of a member of the Vaiśya caste'. See ETE 2, Commentary (89.2) for the identification.
