| Notes |
1. The engraver had omitted this letter at first and added it later in smaller size above the line. 2. The estampage shows a dot resembling the puḷḷi to the right of this letter. A careful re-examination in situ has shown this to be a natural feature. 3. The village Paṉaittuṟai is across the river Cauvery flowing nearby (local informant). 4. vessaṉ. cf. vessa (Pkt.) < vaiśya (Skt.). Alternatively, <vaiśva (Skt.) 'Uttarāshāḍha' asterism. See ETE 2, Commentary (50.2). 5. Read atiṭ-āṉam (atiṭṭāṉam) 'seat'. |
